Do the Rot Thing: Soils & Composing

Get ready to dig in and investigate the importance of natural cycling!  A rarely explored but incredibly important realm of our world’s natural cycles lies right under our feet, in the dark, rich soils. Solve the mysteries of the wiggly creatures that live underneath us consuming items we no longer want and transforming them into the nutrients we need.  After learning about chemical cycling, students will experiment with different compost types. Secondary level students will develop a timeline with steps they can take to create school site composting centers.

Class curriculum addresses Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
