Watercolor Basics
The class will focus on exploring color and paint, emphasizing specific contrasts and relationships. By understanding transparent color with a limited palette, the unpredictable nature of wet paint becomes more enjoyable and less intimidating. The course progresses to cover basic techniques for control, tricks, and texture applicable to landscapes, florals, still life, and more. Students are encouraged to adapt these techniques to suit their individual needs and preferences, with the freedom to use their own references. The emphasis is on finding a balance between control and realism, avoiding “happy accidents” in favor of unexpected creative opportunities for the artist.
Instructor: Linda Sutton
Renowned “Plein aire” artist Linda Sutton, with 35 years of experience, skillfully balances abstraction and realism to create captivating atmospheres. In addition to her artistry, Linda instructs adult classes and workshops on Transparent Color Theory. Residing in the California hills, she draws inspiration from the wildlife and interplay of light in her surroundings. Raised with a keen eye for color, Linda’s fascination with transparent hues has led her to primarily explore transparent watercolors for over three decades.
